Your journey begins in Halifax, featuring red-brick heritage buildings, parks, the landmark Citadel Hill National Historic Site, top-quality museums, Alexander Keith’s original 1820 brewery, and a 2-mile-long seafront boardwalk. We definitely recommend spending an extra day or two here on a Pre-program before embarking on MS Fridtjof Nansen.
French, Fishing, and Forchu - Yarmouth, Nova Scotia
Welcome to this historic town at the intersection of traditional Anglo-Scottish and Acadian French cultures. Situated in the world's largest lobster fishing grounds, Yarmouth boasts the largest fishing fleet in Atlantic Canada. View the grand sea captain homes built in 1850´s or enjoy the picturesque views and hiking trails at the Cape Forchu Lighthouse.
Easternmost City in the USA - Eastport, Maine
Stroll the downtown Historic District here and enjoy the shops, restaurants, and cafés. The native Passamaquoddy people have called nearby Moose Island home for at least 10,000 years, in an area which attracts seals, eagles, and whales. We may see Old Sow in nearby Passamaquoddy Bay, believed to be the biggest whirlpool in the Western Hemisphere.
Quintessentially Maine - Bar Harbor, Maine
Surrounded by stunning Acadia National Park and perched by the sea on Mount Desert Island, Bar Harbor has a special ambiance that is classic Maine. You’ll find some of the region’s best seafood restaurants here, while whales, seals, and puffins can be spotted along the coast.
Small-Town Charm, World-Class Art - Rockland, Maine
Like many Maine communities, this small coastal town situated in Penobscot Bay grew out of the lobster-fishing industry but is now known for its boutiques, fine dining, and galleries. Art lovers can spend time at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art museum and the world-famous Farnsworth Art Museum enjoying works by Andrew Wyeth and other fine New England artists.
The Best of New England - Portland, Maine
This buzzing city has a strong art and music scene, as well as a host of great local seafood restaurants. Tour historic Old Port, known for its working waterfront, art galleries, and restaurants in converted warehouses.
On the Peninsula of Cape Cod - Provincetown, Massachusetts
Visitors are drawn to this colorful town for its beautiful beaches, restaurants, and charming shops. Artists began frequenting Provincetown a century ago and it is one of the oldest continuous art colonies in the country. Nearby Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary attracts 17 species of whale, including humpbacks and rare North Atlantic right whales.
The Cradle of Liberty and Beantown - Boston, Massachusetts
From its history as the oldest city in America to its fanatical sports fans, Boston is a true treasure trove of Americana. Join one of our optional excursions to tour the city, which is home to prestigious Harvard University and legendary sports teams such as the Red Sox, Patriots, and Celtics. Walk the Freedom Trail to get a sense of the city's revolutionary roots, taste the famed clam chowder, or enjoy the dynamic contemporary art, music, and theater scenes. Spend the night in the city using MS Fridtjof Nansen as your base before disembarking the next day.
